Murphy in the Underworld
Published by Glendale Press, 1986.
Harte’s first collection of stories has long since been out of print, and is available only through collector’s networks.
From the reviews of Murphy in the Underworld
His stories are essentially symbolic and read as contemporary fables. The tone is invariably ironic with sometimes savage undertones. All the stories are entertainingly readable. So much so that their sting only hits you afterwards.
Given Mr Harte's writing ability, and the evidence of the stories, he may be welcomed as an interesting arrival.
This is one of the most important story collections for some time. I urge you to read it, you will be surprised, delighted, stunned, shocked, refreshed.
