After the publication of Birds and Selected Stories Harte acquired a substantial and appreciative readership in Bulgaria. He has given three public readings at the National Palace of Culture, and has been reviewed and interviewed widely in the media. One of the stories from this collection, Requiem for Johnny Murtagh, has been made into a film. In May, 2005, he was invited to participate in the International Writers Meeting, which was Bulgaria’s official event to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
